The marking lines on a road surface are created for controlling the traffic running on that busy road. The highway line marking is intended to guide vehicle drivers and pedestrians for ensuring their safe movements on roads. Different Kinds Of Highway Line Marking On Concrete Roads

• Solid lines – When a single solid white line is drawn on a two-way road, it means that a driver should stick to the lane on which he/she is driving and is not allowed to overtake the vehicle running ahead. If the single solid line is drawn in yellow, it indicates that the driver cannot cross that line for any reason. In some places, the single yellow line means that a driver is allowed to overtake another vehicle while overtaking is strictly forbidden in the presence of such highway line marking. Normally, these solid single coloured lines have a standard width of 100 – 150 mm and drawn longitudinally to show the directions of driving. Apart from roads, such lines are also used in private parking lots, to mark the space limit for each car owner.

• Double lines – Different types of double lines are used in the middle of broad streets, to distinctly separate the traffic movements. These lines indicate that vehicles cannot pass from one side of the road to the other side, crossing such road markings. In many places, double solid yellow lines are drawn to control the directions of traffic flow. In some regions, a solid line changes into a broken line, and alternatively the broken line may change into a solid line, in the combination of double lines. The zipper double lines are usually seen in the airport regions. This type of highway line marking can be drawn very fast with two spray guns simultaneously.

• Broken lines – The broken or skip lines are also drawn with white or yellow colour, to allow crossing the lanes from one side to another. However, car drivers need to be careful while crossing the lanes or overtaking other vehicles, mainly among the busy traffic. The white broken lines are drawn to keep the traffic flow in a straight line on a one-way or two-way road. Such highway line marking is also used to mark the cycle lanes in many places. The length, width, and distance between two segments of a broken line vary from one place to another. An automatic or semi-automatic spray gun can be used for drawing these skip lines.

• Contrast black and white lines – Normally, road markings are made only with white colour or only yellow colour, as these two shades are more distinctly seen on the gray concrete surface of roads. However, in many airports, a combination of white and black is used to make these markings more prominent. A marking machine with two spray guns can be used to save time, where separate coloured paints are loaded in each gun.

• Solid and broken lines – A combination of a yellow solid line and a broken line indicates that overtaking of other vehicles is strictly prohibited if a car is driving beside the broken line. On the other hand, cars driving beside the solid line are allowed to overtake other vehicles and move forward. So drivers need to take the right track as per their requirements, in the case of such highway line marking on busy roads.
