PRESS RELEASEFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HOUSTON, TEXAS (May 11, 2015) – MKT BAR at Phoenicia Specialty Foods Downtown is bringing family-friendly fun to the heart of the city with its first-ever Saturday Morning Kid’s Variety Show series to be held every second Saturday throughout the summer: June 13, July 11 and Aug 8 from 9 – 10:30 a.m.

The free event series, sponsored by Sessions Music with a portion of proceeds benefiting ArtBridge Houston, features local children’s musician AndyRoo—an imagination-expanding artist who takes children on a journey through the “AndyRooniverse”—and David Rangel, an award-winning Houston-based magician. The event will also showcase performances by youth-fronted bands and more.

“As the fourth-largest city in the country, we know Houston has a lot to offer families during the summer,” said Phoenicia’s Princess of Creation Ann-Marie Tcholakian. “Like much of what we do here at MKT BAR, we wanted to put our own unique spin on that.”

Along with featured performances, the variety shows will also include kid-focused activities like crafts, coloring, drawing, creative writing and decorating YUMMY! cookies baked fresh in-store at the Phoenicia Specialty Foods bakery. Door prizes will be provided courtesy of Children’s Museum Houston.

“The summer series is a great way to instill a sense of wonder in kids—and also a great way for parents to treat themselves a little, too,” said Tcholakian. “While you’re here, you can sit back, enjoy a coffee and breakfast, and really experience one of Houston’s most eclectic hangout spots.”

Sessions Music Owner Jon Silberman adds, “We have seen first-hand through our work providing music lessons, workshops and band programs for children how music inspires imagination and curiosity. We’re proud to sponsor this series that promises both.”

After the events, should parents or children want to keep that sense of wonder and variety going, there will be plenty of eye candy (and just candy!) to be found right down the hall in the Phoenicia Specialty Foods’ market, deli and more.

“From our whimsical pita conveyor belt to our expansive and colorful prepared foods counter and a broad selection of foods from across the world, it’s easy for every visitor—no matter how old—to feel a little bit like a kid again,” said Tcholakian.

About Phoenicia Specialty Foods

Offering food lovers more than 15,000 products from over 50 countries at down-to-earth prices, Phoenicia Specialty Foods is Houston’s premier family-owned, one-stop, gourmet international food market--and a dream that started modestly. In 1983, Bob and Arpi Tcholakian, Lebanese immigrants of Armenian descent, opened Arpi’s Deli, a Mediterranean-style delicatessen in West Houston. By 1992, the Tcholakians were renting additional space to store their many imported goods. Retail and wholesale customers were soon visiting the storage space to purchase a case of desired, hard-to-find specialty items, and eventually this grocery section became a specialty foods market. Phoenicia Specialty Foods has grown significantly by being responsive to loyal customers and maintaining its focus on offering a wide variety of unique, quality international brands not available elsewhere. More than a grocery, Phoenicia Specialty Foods is an experience. International shoppers and food enthusiasts alike enjoy fresh-baked artisan breads, award-winning European pastries, boutique wines and beers, quality meats and cheeses, a fresh seafood department, hot grill items, tasty prepared foods, exotic produce and a fine assortment of house wares. In 2011, Phoenicia Specialty Foods expanded with the opening of its downtown location and MKT BAR. Located within Phoenicia Specialty Foods Downtown, the urban chic MKT BAR offers gourmet appetizers, select wines, tasty beers on tap, a unique gelato selection and a wide variety of coffees and teas from around the world. Within walking distance to many attractions downtown, MKT BAR is a perfect place to enjoy before or after a game, a concert or a performance. For more information, visit www.YUMSTOP.com
