CHEYENNE, Wyoming – The Wyoming Office of Tourism (WOT) announced today that the state agency has become the official destination partner of the Disney•Pixar’s much-anticipated film “The Good Dinosaur.”
The Wyoming Office of Tourism is on board due to the film’s interpretation of the state’s larger-than-life landscapes and paleontological activities that are present throughout the state. Inspired in part by Wyoming’s incredible natural setting, artists at Pixar infused a great deal of detail into the film’s environments. As the official destination partner, WOT will develop a marketing program in coordination with Disney•Pixar, showcasing aspects of Wyoming’s tourism industry that inspired the film’s landscapes.
“We are ecstatic to work with Disney•Pixar on ‘The Good Dinosaur,’ and use the opportunity to increase interest in and visitation to Wyoming,” said Diane Shober, Executive Director of the Wyoming Office of Tourism. “The film is visually stunning and the setting is very characteristic of the Wyoming scenery we know and love. ‘The Good Dinosaur’ is a perfect fit for Wyoming with the mountain backdrops, sweeping landscapes and ties to paleontology and culture of the American West.”
The film explores a concept in which dinosaurs never became extinct, sharing the story of an Apatosaurus named Arlo and his unlikely friendship with a human boy, Spot. Together, they embark on an epic adventure that forces Arlo to face his fears, learning a lot about himself along the way.
Said production designer Harley Jessup, “The area has a fantastic variety of landscapes, ranging from the Jackson Valley and the Tetons to the amazing geysers and waterfalls in Yellowstone National Park. We studied the grasslands of the high plains and the Red Desert, then incorporated all of it in Arlo’s journey.”
Added director Peter Sohn, “Everywhere we went, there was a duality: something beautiful and dangerous at the same time—like treacherous terrain beneath breathtaking sunsets,” says Sohn. “We didn’t want it to feel like a walk in the park. It feels big—even to a dinosaur.”
WOT will launch the advertising components of “The Good Dinosaur” campaign in mid-November of this year. The collaboration will also include public relations efforts, social media support, visitor center materials, participation in the Hollywood film premiere and much more. As the official destination partner, WOT will be granted access to use assets from the film, such as still shots, animated scenes and characters to promote visitation to the state of Wyoming.
