Dentici wins SCCA GT Lite title on Goodyear tires

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 26, 2015) – Jim Dentici started up front and stayed there, winning the Sports Car Club of America’s GT Lite race during the SCCA’s National Championship Runoffs presented by GarminVIRB.      The event concludes Sunday at Daytona International Speedway.      The race gave Goodyear wins in four of the five classes in which cars have raced on Goodyear rubber. Competition is open among tiremakers in most SCCA classes. Goodyear competes in three more classes Sunday.      Dentici (who lives in Oconomowoc, Fla.) drove a Honda CRX to victory. The victory was his sixth Runoffs title in 12 Runoffs appearances. It was a comfortable win. The margin of victory was 10.736 seconds.      “I have to thank the Goodyear guys,” Dentici said. “They gave us tires that were the same at the end of the race as they were at the beginning.”      Dentici said he used Goodyear’s 430 tread compound.       The venue has drawn raves from the competitors all weekend. The famed road racing circuit includes portions of the superspeedway’s high banks.      “That was kind of a bucket list thing,” Dentici said of winning at Daytona. “Not many people can be a champion at Daytona. I’m really happy, as you can tell.”      No tiremaker can match Goodyear’s success at Daytona, on the oval or on the road course.      Dentici said he had a second performance secret: airplane wax. “I found this little container of wax in my cabinet, it’s probably 25 years old … I pulled it out and it says, ‘airplane slipstream wax.’ I said, ‘Man, I gotta put this stuff on.’ It said it guaranteed six percent higher speed for a jet.”      Goodyear employs about 69,000 people at manufacturing plants and facilities in 22 nations. Based in Akron, Ohio, Goodyear is among the largest tiremakers in the world and is the worldwide leader in race tire innovation.
