BOULDER, Colo. (August 5, 2015) – Skiing Magazine is pleased to announce another new staff member this season, Paddy O’Connell, as associate editor. “Paddy brings so many creative ideas to the table,” says editor-in-chief Kim Beekman, “and he’s savvy and determined on the marketing side, too. I knew he was the perfect fit right away.”Skiing is the world's leading publication for committed skiers, and a brand of Active Interest Media's Outdoor Group,O’Connell grew up just outside of Chicago, and holds a bachelor-of-arts degree in English Literature from Butler University. He moved to Telluride, Colorado, shortly after college to pursue skiing. “Much like my mustache, skiing came to me later in life,” says O’Connell. “My passion sparked in Telluride and grew in the shark fins of the San Juans.” Over the span of six years living in Telluride, O’Connell held just about every ski-town job out there: snowmaker, ski patroller, trail worker, waiter, outdoor educator, and a pizza delivery guy, and for a time, he even sold women’s underwear. But he has also done freelance work for powder.com and Teton Gravity Research  (be sure to check out The Garrett Russell Experience, which O'Connell helped produce for TGR) and eventually found himself working as the ski marking manager at the-house.com, where he was the go-to guy for on-camera talent and social marketing. “I am buzzing about this,” says O’Connell. “This is a legacy brand that is looking forward to the future. I see so much opportunity here.”O’Connell’s extensive knowledge of the digital space combined with his ardor for skiing and storytelling brings exactly the perspective that readers of Skiing crave.
