When speaking at CLOUDSEC Hong Kong 2016, Timothy Wallach, supervisory special agent, Cyber Taskforce of FBI, discussed about the importance of global collaboration in fighting against cyber crime.

Big data, cloud computing, mobility and Internet of Things have met with unprecedented level of sophistication in cyber threats. Data breaches, ransomware and online extortion have emerged as the new risk factors threatening the well-being of enterprises today. Gartner has predicted that by 2020, 60 percent of digital businesses will suffer major service failures due to the inability of IT security teams to manage digital risk.

Nonetheless, despite the continuing rise in cyber threats, organizations are not taking actions fast enough. Trend Micro's recent cybersecurity benchmarking survey revealed that less than one in ten companies in APAC fully understand how cyber attacks are performed and close to 50 percent of companies do not have security awareness program, as a result, 59 percent attribute "employees' lack of knowledge" as the biggest insider threat to cyber security.

"Managing and empowering employees with a security-savvy mindset has to be urgently brought to the top of corporate agenda," said Bob Hung, General Manager of Hong Kong and Taiwan, Trend Micro. "People, technology and processes play equally important role in ensuring the comprehensive security of enterprise networks. Through a platform like CLOUDSEC, corporate participants and subject matter experts can look forward to a valuable experience crowd-sourcing and shaping the most efficient defense strategy."

The view was shared by other keynote speakers presenting at the event.

"A cyber crime can victimize millions of users and originate anywhere in the world, so international cooperation is crucial," said Timothy Wallach, supervisory special agent, Cyber Taskforce of FBI. "It is an understatement to say that maintaining order in a borderless, virtual world poses substantial challenges for law enforcement organizations limited by national, political and legal boundaries. It demands a collective, global approach. We are sharing information and coordinating investigations with our international counterparts. Our special agents around the world partner with their host countries to identify emerging trends and key players."
