SINGAPORE - Media OutReach - August 1, 2016 - On Saturday, July 30, 2016, 20 Konica Minolta Business Solutions Asia (BSA) employees enthusiastically paired up with 20 young footballers from Beyond Social Services in the Konica Minolta Futsal 2016 Championship.
In eight teams of five, the participants faced off on the concrete court in a round-robin tournament format.
The initiative, organised by Konica Minolta BSA, falls under its overarching 'I AM CSR' corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme that was launched in April 2016. The programme seeks to improve employee volunteerism rates in the company, and supports the Singapore Government's recent initiatives to encourage corporate volunteerism and promote an active lifestyle among the public.
"As a socially responsible company, we hope to further drive passion among our employees to contribute positively to the local society," said Ms Celine Long, Senior Manager, Corporate Branding & Marketing, Konica Minolta (BSA), and also one of the staff who volunteered at the initiative on Saturday. "This initiative serves as a touchpoint for us to brighten the day of the children at Beyond Social Services through meaningful activities such as sport."
"Playing on the same team with adults they have just met was a new experience that showed our youths that friendship and cooperation is not beyond us whenever we have a shared purpose." Gerard Ee, Executive Director, Beyond Social Services.
The efforts of Konica Minolta BSA employees do not go unrecognised. They receive points for every initiative they volunteer for. These points can be exchanged for rewards such as board games and vouchers.
"Rewards aside, the larger picture here for Konica Minolta is to lead by example as a company that has been listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for four years in a row," concluded Ms Long.
